Return to the site of one of history’s most underhanded attacks to remember the “day that will live in infamy,” the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The attack which was designed to knock America out of a war in the Pacific ended up drawing the nation into one. Countless acts of heroism and sacrifice, some by high-ranking officers, others by enlisted men, occurred on the morning that caused America’s entry into World War II. On this tour, our Passengers will have the opportunity to attend the anniversary commemorations. We will visit the monuments that honor those who gave their lives in defense of liberty in the Pacific, as well as the battleships that remain, the museums that safeguard the relics of the period and the island treasures that make Hawaii famous with ample free time to explore and enjoy the island on your own.
Passengers are greeted at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu on the island of O'ahu and transferred to the hotel on Waikiki. During the subsequent orientation dinner, you will learn more about the tour and get to know your fellow patriots. We will spend the next few days at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial to pay our respects at the memorials on the battleship row on Ford Island. We will board the legendary battleship USS Missouri and the USS Bowfin submarine at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, plus visit the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum and its hangars holding both Allied and Japanese bombers and fighter planes. To close this part of the tour, we spend the day at Kualoa Ranch on the eastern shores and enjoy their Secret Island private beach, go on an ocean voyage tour in the bay and then explore the valley for filming sites for movies such as Pearl Harbor and Jurassic Park.
We will start the second leg of the tour commemorating the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor at the official ceremony. We honor the valor and sacrifice of the heroes of the Pacific Theater at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (informally known as Punchbowl Cemetery). To conclude the ceremonies, we will attend the Memorial Parade on Kalakaua Avenue. The rest of the tour will be mostly dedicated to exploring the natural beauty of the island on a grand circle tour and learning more about the native cultures and the gastronomy of the Pacific Islands at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We will pay a visit to the only royal residence in the United States: the opulent Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu. Eventually, we will enter the volcanic tuff cone Diamond Head National Natural Monument, one of the popular destinations of Waikiki with its stunning panoramic views. The following morning, passengers are transferred to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport for their return flights.
